FAQ

• What is the password?
  Login as user "root" with password "pass"
• How to store data in the SD-card?
  The card path is /sdcard/ Accessing it will trigger a mount.
• Can I add packages from Raspbian?
  Yes
• Where is the package manager?
  There are none. Nard is a SDK, not a regular Linux distribution. Typically one precomputes a static image which can't subsequently be modified. This is how live boot systems work and it makes them very long term predictable. With +100 devices in remote locations it's of utterly importance they all run exactly the same software – or support become a nightmare.
• Where is application X?
  If it's not yet available in nard/apps/ you may either add it your self (tutorial here) or ask for help in the mailing list.
• How do I create a new "product"?
  There is a tutorial here.
• Can it play audio and video?
  The mediaplayer example product play MP3 and display JPG images. Video is partially supported via the videocore tools.
• How to use the GPIO pin header?
  Use either of the included WiringPi or pigpio librarys and create a C-program. Both have command line tools as well.
• How to contribute?
  Send patches and additions to the mailing list.

Reliability and Regulatory Compliance

• Supply voltage
  Do not power Raspberry Pi from a PC USB socket! Use a proper power supply having 1A output at least. If you experince strange behaviour or broken SD-cards; try shorten the cables and replace the supply with a more powerfull one. Also, try connecting any USB peripheral via an externaly powered hub.
• MTBF
  
  • No true MTBF calculation exist, however the estimated CPU lifetime is about 40 years.
  • Board production is top class at Sony Pencoed.
• EMC
  
  • Model B has FCC category B compliance
  • Model B+ went through the same level of compliance testing as the Model B.
  • Model 2B is susceptible for very strong light.
  • Copies of certificates and conformity documents are here.
• Vibrations
  Mostly unknown…
  • Model A, A+, B and B+: Low, or the SD-card might detach.
  • Compute Module: unknown
• Temperature
  
  • Model B withstand commercial temp 0° to +70° Celsius.
  • Compute Module withstand -25° to +80° Celsius.
• Humidity
  Indoor use only (unless good casing).

  • The Model B is "staying in production for as long as there is demand"
